Abstract
Despite growing tech communities in West Africa, data on open source contributions from the region remains limited. This study analyzes GitHub contribution data from 10,000+ developers across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal over a 3-year period.

Results show a 156% increase in contributions since 2023, with particular growth in PHP, JavaScript, and Python projects. However, representation in major projects remains low. The paper recommends mentorship programs, better documentation in local contexts, and more inclusive community practices.
